Just as soon as you get your brand-new Android smartphone, there are a few apps you are probably going to download immediately, Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, maybe Kindle, along with your favorite games. But with more than a million apps in the Google Play store, it’s pretty much assured that there are going to be a lot of options that you never even thought of, either because you’re not sure what they do or you simply don’t even know they exist. Here’s one of those that you probably have never heard of but belongs on this list of top picks because it’s an exceptional app with loads of features you might want to try:
Messaging apps that send texts, photos, videos and location information are everywhere these days, but WeChat’s claim to fame is fun. A cool live chat walkie-talkie-style feature will allow you and a group of friends to send short voice messages to each other. It also has a robust library of free and paid stickers that make messaging pals truly entertaining. The free app works on iOS, Android, Windows and BlackBerry devices, plus there’s a web client for the desktop.
WeChat is one of the strongest texting alternatives, so long as your friends are using it too. The program is backed by Tencent, which is one of the largest worldwide Internet providers.
With the usual multiplatform messaging features, such as texts, images and videos over your data plan or wifi, WeChat allows voice messages along with voice and video calls. In addition, there are a tons of animated smileys available, and a fun walkie-talkie mode, which might be unusually useful under the right circumstances. WeChat supports all the usual languages and has a Facebook Connect option.
WeChat works simply great, and may be an excellent alternative to other texting services. However, how you’ll bring your friends to also sign up is another kettle of fish, though perhaps it’s time for you to think about the benefits of having more than one messaging app installed at once.
